ResumenMaps are not just representations of reality. Maps reflect the culture of the time, the interest of society, the techniques… and also the own decision of the cartographer. This second characteristic makes maps useful to transform reality. This line of research aims to explore in more detail the transformative capacity of maps, as real drivers of new urban futures (or presents?). The empirical analysis will be used to explore this capacity in more detail. Empirical issues to work on include, but are not limited, to 'ageing in cities', 'the right to housing', 'actions for more environmental sustainability', 'towards new local productivity', and 'spatial impacts of emerging economical activities'. Student profile: interest in urban planning and design and knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
